Aion and Me! How I make my Kinah!

How I make Kinda in Aion.  NO I am not a gold farmer.   Just my interests have changed as I have played every MMO under the sun.  When I do login, I find my self doing a couple of things that are not so much level driven but more so economy driven.  I do not know if it is the fact that I have played MMOs for about 12 years now or my interests have changed.

Ahh the Aion broker.  The fun you can have with this.  I am not sure if it is my luck or the fact that people really do not know how to use the broker yet.  I will take a commodity, such as Steel Ingots, Flux etc and buy up everything I can possibly afford.  What do do with this?  Well there are a few things.  You can 1. usually double the price and make more money right on the broker, or 2. stock up so much that you plop your self down in the right place and sell the items rather quickly.  In about 1 weeks time, I made 1.5 million kinah doing this.  Really, I have been so busy so I just leave my pc logged in and let it do the selling for me.

Whats that?  Your account gets logged out all the time?  Well then you have not learned the right places to put your private store.  If your private store gets viewed once every 30 minutes, the timer log out timer reactivates and your account will stay in until your ISP poops on your or NcSoft does a maintenance.

When I have a little more time for Aion, I like to login and find a place to grind/farm.  Why?  Its like Christmas as a kid, you never know what you are going to get.  Its flat out FUN to open that body and see if you got a Gold rare item.  If you don’t think this is fun, there is something wrong with you.  =)

What my AION future looks like.  Well, I have slowly been leveling due to life being busy atm and have finally reached 25.  This weekend looks like the first entry into the abyss.  Yes I am a AION pvp virgin but don’t let that fool you.  Just because I have not pvped in AION, does not mean I am an easy kill.  That Kinah has to go somewhere, so call me a twink all you want.
Look to see you all in the abyss!

AION Addon-less?

The team at NCSOFT has adopted a policy that is highly lauded by long-time, true mmorpg gamers. What does this mean to you as an Aion player? Pure game-play and less chance for hacking, cracking and bots. For those of you who are unfamiliar with these terms, let me briefly explain. Some past and current mmorpg’s either tacitly or illicitly allow other people not directly associated with their company, to write programs which either add content, filter content or change the look and use of the user interface(how the game looks to the player). Some of these addons allow healers, for example, to heal a group with one click of the mouse. This changes the game play becuase most of the time, the programmers intended for the player to click on each person to heal them with a target heal and to heal the group with a group heal. The change in the user interface allows the healer to just click one button at all times and heal the group. Purists feel that this is changing the game but some gamers beleive this helps them heal better or to progress in areas in which they would otherwise fail. Some programs actually craft for you in your absence.

Some current mmorpgs actually allow you set up your computer and level your crafting by automatically choosing the item, the recipes and the buffs to create items. All this can be done without any input from the user. The purpose of this is simply to level the crafter in order to be able to make the end-game items without the grind of manually leveling each character for each tradeskill.

Aion is right in not allowing any addons. Think about it. You don’t have to play this game. When you choose to play it, you choose to accept their content, their rules and their intent at the experience. When every Aion player sees the game from the same user interface, they will all have an equal opportunity to succeed or fail. Success will be dependent on the person, not the program they are running in addition to the game. This includes raiding and studying the numbers.

Most mmorpg’s include guilds, or fellowships or whatever term they may use to form large groups in a “club.” They are all working together to explore and conquer the end-game; this is raiding. Raiding takes time, patience, the best gear, teamwork and cooperation. This comes at a cost. Most of the cost is in time and the guild often picks only their best players to raid. How do they know who is the best? The answer is usually, “the parse.” Without gettting in to the math of it, essentially, the parse relfects who in the raid (usually 12-24 players) is hitting the hardest, hitting with the highest damage and who is healing the most. There are many programs that are addons and read the numbers generated in the game in order to display this number to the raid. It also has the ability to show the “timers” of the mob. This shows what type of spell or mez or fear the mob uses and when it will be cast on the raid. Again, purists may argue that this goes against the intentions of the programmers and disrupts the meaning of the game. Aion has solved this problem and now those end-game raids, legions and players will have to spend more time studying the mob, and working together. This will result in a higher feeling of accomplishment when that mob dies!

As you may have noticed, I have refrained from using the names of any particular mmorpg. If you play, you can think of some of the games that have the characteristics I have described, if you have not played any other mmorpg, I will allow you to make your own decision because every one of them has its strong points and its place in the mmorpg realm.

How will Aion Crafting Differ?

Aion has created a tradeskilling world unlike any other in the mmorpg world. Finally, a game will allow gamers the ability for their character; yes, single character, to learn ALL the tradeskills in the game. If you wish to focus on one aspect, you are welcome to do that, but for true crafters, you will be able to explore and potentially become an expert in all the tradeskills. Gone, are the days where you had to have 6 different characters, each with a tradeskill. All reports reflect that there are no conditions on this other than learning the trades themselves. The other component to crafting being implemented is that the items that will be crafted will actually be useful to players.

Many other mmorpgs have crafting and most limit one character to one trade. Often, that trade is handy but not critical to the gameplay and certainly not critical to the end game content. Now, yes, characters need food and spells and they need bags and boxes to store their booty, but after you have a stack of food and your bags and spells, what else can most crafters make to help you progress or take that end-game mob? The answer is NOTHING. Sure, you could get a timed scroll to add stamina, or intelligence, but that is handy, not critical. In Aion, the items that can be crafted with the special recipes will allow characters to have weapons, and gear to take-down the end-game content. This is a concept that has yet to be seen in a mainline mmorpg. Normally, guilds (legions in Aion) have to progress together and slowly get gear from mob drops in order to improve their stats and progress to the end-game content. This prevents the casual player or the player who is not good at forming groups or finding a legion from seeing the end-game. With the strict control of not allowing crafting bots, add-ons and parsing programs, the tradeskillers will be in greater demand but more importantly, they will have a stronger role in the game.

See you in the Abyss,

Rasselas

Aion PvP, What Does it Mean For You?

Aion PvP and how NcSoft captured balance!

Players will be able to battle each other when they achieve level 25. In the gaming world, this is known as Player versus Player, or PvP. What does this mean and how is this different than other mmorpg’s? Let me attempt to explain. Some other online games allow players to begin battling other gamers immediately and others are designed to help you understand your character and class before exposing you to the “real world.”

Aion has attempted to balance the argument for both styles and successfully, I believe. By allowing you to develop your character to 25, you will really get a sense of how to properly play your character but more importantly, you will be able to get a good sense of whether the class you have chosen, is one in which you feel comfortable, are happy, and will committ to leveling. If you spend your time say, from level 10 to 25, in the player versus player environment, you will be dividing your time from exploring the game and gettting to know your class, with having to face other real players in the PvP aspect of the game. This can be distracting to those who wish to balance their questing with the PvP component of the game. By focusing on establishing your class, you will be a better player at 25. On most other mmorpg’s, players frequently “lock” their character at a low level so that they may learn their class, and get better gear in order to be successful in PvP. One of the most appealing things about Aion, is that it is designed to be balanced. If players of other games just wanted to quest, level their character and occassionaly PvP, they constantly feel harrassed by the “level locked” players until they gained enough experience to out-level them. In Aion, everyone at a given level is there for the amount of time directly relevant to their experience, and not becuase they have turned off the questing experience. You won’t be able to quest, battle, and explore while at 25 while staying at that level. As you accomplish the goals, you will gain experience toward the next level and therefore, you will eventually move to that next level.

For the gamers who wish to focus on questing, you are allowed that style in Aion. The PvP will be focused in an area of the world called the Abyss. If you don’t travel to the Abyss, you will be able to focus on the Player versus Environment (PvE) aspect of the game. If you decide you want to challenge another player and test your skills, travel to the Abyss and you can earn bragging rights. In addition, players who acheive a certain level of success in the Abyss, will be able to earn real, valuable gear that will increase your abilities and statistics, making you a better player and more powerful. Aion has called this balance of environment versus players as a PvPvE type of game, and all indications are that this is an accurate and balanced description.

See you in the Abyss,

Rasselas
